Oxford Innovation, The EpiCentre, Haverhill
The Brief: The EpiCentre was originally designed to predominantly cater for businesses that needed traditional office space, but shortly after opening in 2020 this evolved into co-working and laboratory spaces. Working closely with Oxford Innovation, Barkhams helped create the collaborative workspace that epitomises The EpiCentre’s ideals.
The Reception: Oxford Innovation understood the need for a statement reception unit; the focal point of any office space. In keeping with today’s trends, the client opted for a stealthy, matte black finish on the bespoke Italian reception unit, fitted with DDA access and complementing pendant lighting hung above. This design and concept helped to create a modern but inviting reception area.
The Meeting Rooms: Barkhams worked closely with Oxford Innovation to procure meeting room furniture that would support the EpiCentre’s AV requirements, along with a modern aesthetic that would tie in with the brand identity of the centre. This specification was achieved by procuring meeting tables from UK manufacturer Hawk Furniture, equipped with integrated cable management, wire-managed box-bases and cable access ports and finished in a Black MFC with contrasting White MFC frame.
Barkhams then curated refurbished Herman Miller Aeron meeting chairs, finished in a blue mesh that perfectly complements the brand colours of The EpiCentre. This blended approach of new and used furniture also helped Oxford Innovation’s and Barkhams’ sustainability mission.
The Lobby: The EpiCentre wanted to create a collaborative working space where teams could meet informally and work on an ad-hoc basis. This was achieved by utitlising the Ligni range; a wooden frame table and chair furniture range that invokes a welcoming aesthetic by use of natural wooden leg frames and brand-coded upholstery. The differing heights between the Ligni poseur tables and coffee tables helped create a dynamic setting that would allow for different styles of working and meeting set-ups.
The Result: A purpose-built workspace, purposefully located.
